GOOD SIGNS THAT THE REMEDY IS WORKING

In acute ailments the symptoms are by their very nature going to get better or worse quickly, therefore you will know almost immediately if the remedy is working because there will be an obvious improvement in symptoms. However if unsure refer to the list below,

When you take a remedy you want the symptoms to clear up quickly and if that does happens then obviously you know the remedy's working, no question about it. However in chronic (long term) ailments sometimes the amelioration will not be so obvious or immediate - the superficial symptoms might not be the first to clear up so how then would you know whether you had the right remedy and whether it was taking effect or not? i.e. what are the good signs that a remedy is taking effect? All chronic ailments are treated constitutionally, so we look for positive changes anywhere in our system to tell us that the healing process has started.

Typically the good signs that show the remedy is definitely working are:

- An improvement on the mental or emotional level: a feeling of well-being or relaxation may occur, this is often the first thing a patient will notice.

- A desire to sleep, or deeper normal sleep after a remedy is common

- Increased elimination: whether in perspiration, going to the toilet, or other discharges, (including developing a cold) are positive signs that are commonly seen after a homeopathic remedy that the body is starting to put itself right - 'detoxing'. (Increased elimination is unlikely to apply in the majority of acute states unless lack of elimination is itself part of the problem.)

- Deeper symptoms will improve before more superficial symptoms

- A temporarily increase in symptoms; the intensity may increase for a brief time before improving, known as the homeopathic 'aggravation'. (this normally only applies to chronic conditions, not acutes states of asthma or earaches or 'flu etc.)

- A shift in symptoms; symptoms may change in several ways that lead to increased overall health, :
- there may be returning old symptoms
(ROS) , a very good sign,
- or they will change according to the 'direction of cure'
(DOC), also a good sign
